Cessation of use of e-Cert File Card as e-Cert Storage Medium with effect from 1 February 2019

Hongkong Post Certification Authority (HKPCA) currently provides e-Cert File Card as one of the storage media for e-Cert (Personal), e-Cert (Organisational) and e-Cert (Encipherment) ["e-Cert (P)/(O)/(E)"]. Due to technical obsolesce of the e-Cert File Card and its utility program, HKPCA will cease use of e-Cert File Card as the default e-Cert storage medium with effective from 1 February 2019Note 1. For applications of e-Cert (P)/(O)/(E), e-Cert File USB will be the default storage medium and the relevant charge applies (currently HK$40 each).

To facilitate transition, HKPCA will waive the charges for the e-Cert File USB (i.e. it will be offered free of charge) for e-Cert (P)/(O)/(E) for (i) new applications submitted in February 2019, and (ii) renewal application that are due and submitted in February 2019Note 2.

For enquiries, please call Hongkong Post Certification Authority hotline on 2921 6633 or email to enquiry@eCert.gov.hk.

Effective date of 1 February 2019 is also in tandem with the HKPCA Root CA Rollover Plan. For details, please refer to the relevant announcement issued on 5 December 2018.
Submission on renewal application of e-Cert is allowed within one month prior to the expiry of the certificate. Renewal application due in February 2019 refers to application for e-Cert with expiry date in February/March 2019, with the allowable submission made in February 2019.
